Brankica Janković, Commissioner for Protection of Equality of Republic of Serbia
Brankica Janković was appointed Commissioner for the Protection of Equality in May 2015. Commissioner is an central national public state authority, elected by The National Assembly. She is also Lecturer at the master studies on the subject: Multicultural Social Work - Anti-discrimination policies and practices, at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia, Lecturer at the High Studies of Security and Defence of The Serbian Armed Forces and Mentor on the Program "Share your Knowledge" organized by the European Movement in Serbia, with the support of the OSCE mission.
She was National Project Director on projects Fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Integrated Response to Violence against Women, National Coordinator of the Working Group on Ageing of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Head of the Negotiating Group for chapter 19 (Social Policy and Employment) in the EU accession negotiation process, the Chair of the Subcommittee for Research, Innovation, Information Society and Social Policy within the Committee for the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, and member of the Political Council for the implementation of Resolution 1325 Women, Peace, Security. She led three different Committees of the Serbian Government – for the issues of elderly, for persons with disabilities and for children's rights, and also was a chief of different Serbian delegations. She was head of the Gerontology Center of Belgrade for seven years, and before that, teacher and secretary of High School.
Her areas of expertise are social protection, protection of women, elderly people, child rights protection and public administration and security. She published several scholarly articles in areas of labor law, social protection and aging of population. During her professional career she was also on the position of State Secretary of The Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Policy from 2012 to 2014, where she managed and implemented social protection system, family law protection, labor and employment public policies. During her work career she has been participating in development of various national strategic and legal documents.
Brankica Jankovic is Prizewinner of: “Contribution of the Year to Europe” for 2018 award, which the European Movement in Serbia has been awarding since 2002, OSCE award "Person of the Year" for 2017, National award for contribution to the development of social protection systems, given by the Association of Social Protection of the Republic of Serbia, and “Golden Wheel” for the contribution to the protection of human rights of the Roma minority, given by the National Council of Roma in Serbia.
Brankica Jankovic graduated law from the Faculty of Law University of Belgrade and she is a PhD candidate on the Faculty of Security Studies University of Belgrade. She has a degrees for Special generic course for civilian participation in peacekeeping missions, Center for Peacekeeping Operation of Ministry of Defence, and a member of Ethical Commity of Military Medical Academy of Serbia.
